Canadian heavy truck powered by renewable natural gas

June 10, 2019. Énergir and C.A.T. Inc. have joined forces to put Quebec's first class 8 renewable natural gas (RNG) transport truck on the road. This truck was presented at the Montreal Movin'On Summit.

Énergir is actively involved in the development of the renewable natural gas sector. It is an energy derived from residual organic matter, renewable and carbon neutral. C.A.T. is Energier's first client in the field of road transport to consume RNG as fuel.

The use of an alternative fuel is not new for C.A.T. In 2014, the national and cross-border carrier converted 110 vehicles from its fleet from diesel to natural gas. Since their commissioning, C.A.T. has reduced emissions by 3,500 tones, the equivalent of removing approximately 22 similar trucks from the road. This environmental shift was a step towards the ultimate goal of operating a fleet of carbon neutral vehicles.
