Sheehy Mail Contractors honored with U.S. EPA award

November 10, 2017. Sheehy Mail Contractors, Inc. (SMCI) of Waterloo has been honored with a U.S Environmental Protection Agency SmartWay Excellence Award for being an industry leader in freight supply chain environmental performance and energy efficiency.

Currently, 92 percent of SMCI’s truck fleet operates solely on compressed natural gas (CNG) fuel since the trucks were implemented in 2013. To fuel the trucks, SMCI uses a variety of different CNG fuel stations across the country already having purchased more than 1.9 million gallons of fuel so far in 2017.

Aside from implementing CNG fuel in its fleet, SMCI has also been testing the use of hydrogen in conjunction with CNG to further increase efficiency.

In 2013, Sheehy Mail began the implementation of CNG fuel in its truck fleet. Sheehy has been recognized nationally for its implementation of CNG fuel in its fleet. It is an EPA SmartWay Transport Partner, a recipient of the NGVAmerica Award for NGV Advocacy and Feet Implementation, and is a 2015 Wisconsin Smart Feet Inaugural Partner.

“Sheehy has worked hard with our customers to provide an environmentally sustainable service and the SmartWay award validates the hard work we have done to accomplish this goal,” John Sheehy, CEO of Sheehy Enterprises, said.

SMCI was one of 62 companies in the U.S to receive this distinction, representing the best environmental performers of SmartWay’s 3,600 Partners. The Excellence Awardees were honored at the American Trucking Associations Management & Exhibition Annual Conference held in Orlando, Fla. on Oct. 23.
